Two is Better Than One

IMG_2882

We have been trying really hard to get Pierce to say his sister’s name. “Boston, Boston, Boston,” she and I chant over and over again. I know he could say it, he simply chooses not to. He does have a name for her though, and I suppose it is quite fitting.

“Come MOMMA!” he excitedly shouts her way. She smiles and shakes her head, “That Pierce, he always calls me momma. I’m not the momma, I’m the dear sister!” Yes, dear girl, you most certainly are. MOMMA does seem quite fitting though for his bossy little partner in crime.

This mom of multiples thing is hard, harder than I had ever imagined. However, to watch the two of them together has to be the greatest joy in all of life. They complete me, and I am putty in their sticky little hands.

What about you?? Do you still have a strong relationship with your sibling(s)? What is your favorite thing about watching your own children bond with one another? I would LOVE to hear about it!

  1. Although my elder brother and I fought a lot in the past, I still believe two is better than one. He tried his best just to initiate fighting with me, but he always tries to protect me from being hurt by others. We don’t talk much, but we really love each other. 🙂

    1. My son is only a year and a half and is already instigating fights with his sister. He knows exactly what will make her react and does so with a smug smile on his face. It must definitely be a boy thing! 🙂

I love how he plays your protector. I really hope my son will be the same.

    1. Keri, if I would ever suggest one thing to do in life, it would be to have another! It really is such a precious gift, and as a mom it is the most beautiful thing to witness. You most definitely do not have to have them as close in age as mine though! 😉

  2. My second baby boy in on the way. I have SO much fun discussing the baby with my toddler. He loves to put his hand on my belly and feel. He says he wants to catch him. I’m not the only one in love already 🙂

  3. Dearest Sasha:

Are these your kids in the pic? They are so sweet. They look like one of those cards.

My twin boys, who are twelve, are best friends. When they were little, they had a language all their own, which only they understood. It went something like this: babble, grah, babble, grah, goo, yah, kubbuki, babble followed by hysterical laughter. I used to almost wet my pants listening to them. It was so precious.

My daughter loves Amy Whinehouse (she died of too much wine, Mommy) and loves to sing her songs at the top of her lungs after we put her to bed. She’s tone deaf as a stone, poor thing, but her enthusiasm was admirable, or at least, we thought so. My husband and I sat at the bottom of the stairs listening until her brothers (older) told her to stop the caterwauling (I didn’t even know they knew that word, so on top of being impressed with their vocabulary, our hilarity was doubled.

    Fondly,
    Elizabeth

    1. Elizabeth, I have heard of this twin babble talk before! How awesome is that!!! Ha, “caterwauling,” I am extremely impressed!! I would never have thought that word up. 🙂 Thanks for sharing these sweet and funny stories!

Oh, and yes they are my two kids in the pic. 🙂

  5. Love this picture! My lil brother and I are super close. We have our own ‘movie talk’ language that makes my mom and friends roll their eyes and watch us in bafflement and I love it! I hope my boys have the same closeness when they are grown up!

  6. I have three older sisters with the oldest being 13 years my senior. I used to call her Second Mom – much to my actual mother’s frustration. Because of the age differences between the four of us, there wasn’t much of the usual sibling rivalry and we weren’t particularly close. It’s been fun to see those relationships grow deeper now that we’re all mothers.

    1. 13 years was like a second mom. I can understand your mom’s feelings though. 🙂 Adult years can really be the best for siblings I think. Glad you four are finding that bond now!

  7. My twin six years separated is my best friend! She was born in the middle of my 6th birthday, and I adore her to this day. I feel lucky to have that bond with her as neither my mom nor dad were/are close to their siblings.

  8. I’m so excited to have more kids for this precise reason! My own siblings have been such an absolute blessing and strength in my life and it just keeps getting better… I call my sisters quite frequently and talk motherhood and it is wonderful. Siblings really are the best. We share something so wonderful. And the resemblance… that is fun too! 🙂

  9. I agree, 2 is better than 1. My sons are 4 & 2. Watching them play together warms my mommy heart. I just sit there and smile a huge smile and think about how blessed I am to have 2 healthy kids.

My own siblings and I have always been very close. That’s why it was devastating to lose my brother last year to cancer at the age of 36. Thank God my sister and I have each other. She understands my sibling grief better than anyone else.

    1. I know exactly what you mean about sitting with this huge smile! I sometimes feel like my face needs a break from all the smiling! 🙂

I am so sorry about your loss. I have three sisters and I cannot even imagine the pain of losing one of them. I am so glad you have that bond with your sister!

  10. This is so cute! Our youngest can say his cousin’s names and his oldest brother’s, but he insists in calling M, our middle, “brudder.” Siblings are the best! I’ve heard a quote saying something along the lines of,”the best gift you can give to your child is a sibling.” I couldn’t agree with that more, from my childhood perspective as well as my own children’s.

  11. I have the blessing of being the middle sibling, and all my siblings favorite. I am very close to my two older siblings and my one younger, and don’t know what I would do without them. Growing up with siblings is wonderful, and I can’t imagine what it would be like to be an only child. I just had my first child, but I know I will absolutely have at least one more because having a sibling will be one of the greatest gifts I can give my son.

    1. Stephanie, I too come from a family of four! I was the oldest of four girls (my poor dad!) and can remember nothing but the greatest of memories growing up with my sisters. Congrats on your baby!!!!

  12. I am an only child, so seeing the sibling love grow is a really cool thing for me. I never felt like I was missing out on anything as an only child (and still don’t). But seeing them give each other a hug and kiss each morning, or seeing my son read my daughter a book — it’s the absolute best.

    1. Maisy, I think you made a good point here about not missing the sibling thing. There is no right or wrong number of children one should have, and I have equal respect for those who stop at one as those who go to ten. 🙂

How sweet they greet each other this way each morning though!! Way to instantly melt a momma’s heart!
